Scan, OCR & PDF — private, on-device, no ads
Tap Add pages → Scan a page and line up the document — DocScan detects the edges automatically. Scan as many pages as you like, reorder or delete any, then tap Save to Documents to name and file it. You can also Import from Photos to bring in existing pictures.
Open a document (or select specific pages) and use the Export menu. You can export a searchable PDF, a Word (.docx) file with the recognized text, or image files. You can also Print directly.
DocScan recognizes the text on your pages (on-device) and layers it invisibly into the PDF, so you can select, copy, and search the text in any PDF reader.
Use the search bar at the top of the library. DocScan searches both document names and the text inside your scans. Newly added documents become searchable a moment after you save them.
Open a page and tap the edit (crop/rotate) button to rotate, crop, or apply a filter. The Markup tool lets you draw, add text, lines, arrows, shapes, and highlights, and move/resize/rotate anything you add. Markup is baked onto the page, so it prints and exports with the document.
Turn on App Lock in Settings to require Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode to open DocScan. If Face ID isn’t prompting, make sure DocScan is allowed to use Face ID in iOS Settings → DocScan.
Yes — choose PDF — Password-Protected when exporting and set a password. The PDF will require it to open. There is no way to recover a forgotten password, so store it somewhere safe.
Everything stays on your device. Scanning, text recognition, storage, and search all happen locally — nothing is uploaded, and DocScan collects no personal data. See our Privacy Policy.
In Settings → Backup & Restore you can export a portable backup file you store anywhere, or back up to your own iCloud (manually or automatically). To move to a new device, install DocScan and use Restore. Note: restoring replaces the current library, so back up first if needed.
Open iOS Settings → DocScan and confirm Camera and Face ID are enabled. Camera scanning and Face ID don’t work in the iOS Simulator — use a real device.
Notes are saved with their document. If you moved a page to another document, its note moves with it. If a note seems to have vanished after an app update, please email us with what happened — it helps us investigate.
Email docscan@sternfam.com with your device model and iOS version, and a short description (or screenshot) of the issue. We’ll get back to you.
